rfid full form, rfid card in computer science:- here we will be clearing your basics on rfid full form, rfid tag full form, rfid full form in the computer, rfid card full form, rfid definition, How rfid technology works and applications of rfid.

rfid full form

Radio Frequency Identification is a very popular rfid full form.

What is RFID? | RFID Definition

Radio Frequency Identification or rfid is a technology working on radio waves or radiofrequency.

How RFID technology works

In Radio Frequency Identification or RFID, a rfid ID tag is attached to the object ( to be identified or tracked ). RFID reader continuously sends radio waves.

Whenever the object ( having an RFID tag ) will be in the range of the RFID Reader, the RFID tag will send its feedback to the RFID reader.

I know exactly what just strike in your mind just now, is it similar to a barcode?.

But a big NO. In the barcode, the scanner and the object must be in the line of sight.

Hence for the time, the object is in the range of the RFID reader, the reader can read the object and the object can send the feedback signals to the RFID Reader.

Hence, using RFID technology we can track multiple objects at the same time.

Components of RFID System

As discussed above RFID technology has two components:

1. Reader

2. RFID tag

1. RFID Tag has three components:

   1. RF Signal Generator - To send signals to RFID Tag.

   2. Microcontroller - To process the received data.

   3. Receiver/ Signal Detector - To receive feedback signals from RFID Tags.

RFID Reader comes in many sizes and shapes ranging from a small handheld device to as large as a door.

2. RFID tag is available is three forms

   1. Active Tag - have enough power to receive the signal and then send the feedback signal to the reader.

   2. Passive Tag - does not have their power supply and relies on the radio waves coming from the Reader. Hence, this Tag category has less range compared to other tags.

   3. Semi-passive tag - have their power supply but to send back feedback signal relies on the signals of Reader as a source of power.

Components of an RFID Tag:

1. Transponder

2. Rectifier Circuit

3. Controller

4. Memory

Frequency of operation of RFID Tags

1. LF - Low Frequency

125KHz - 134KHz and has a range of up to 10 cms.

2. HF - High Frequency

13.56 MHz and has a range of up to 1m.

3. UHF - Ultra High Frequency

860MHz - 960MHz and has a range up to 10m - 15m.

Applications of RFID Technology

This technology is used to automatically identify the object or to track them.

Here an object can be anything, a garment, a book, any purchase-able thing in a shop or shopping mall.

So, some of the major applications of RFID Technology are:

1. In institutions

Hospital, Library, Schools, and colleges.

2. Logistics and transportation

3. Access Control

4. Sports

5. Animal Tracking

6. Personnel tracking

7. Document tracking

What is RFID wallet

After the introduction of RFID cards for payments. There are many cases of theft.

Hence to prevent such thefts, wallets ( maximum made up of aluminum ) are made to protect personal data by blocking the flow of signals.
